Another day

So after my tussle with Brad Pitt I took him to bed (I wish 😉 ) and chocolate, herbal tea and an early night saved the day.

While I was dealing with the demon drink hubby was out at an open mic night at a local pub.  As you know he drank like me and so we have stopped together (in fact he is a week ahead of me!)  While at the pub he asked at the bar for a pint of blackcurrant.  The bar staff did a double take and said sorry can you repeat that to which he did.  The barman then said would you like that with cider? (for my non UK readers cider and blackcurrant is a popular drink here, and if served with lager too is known as snakebite or Diesel).  No hubby said – just blackcurrant and water, which cost him 60p!

The reason for sharing this anecdote is that, okay it was a pub, but drinking something non-alcoholic is the last thing considered here it would seem and is expensive compared to the alcoholic equivalent.

Tonight we’re off to a fireworks party to celebrate Guy Fawke’s night and there will be mulled wine everywhere.  We’ll be drinking tea 🙂

  1. You made it through another night. Hooray! I’m pulling for you (and your husband). My husband and I quit drinking and smoking together ( I’m a week ahead of him😄) 13 months ago. Keep on keepin on. It’s worth it and so are you!

  2. I remember going into my local and them being ready to pour me cider, when I had to stop them and tell them no, lime n soda thanks, I nearly always had the first pint half poured by the time I got to the bar!
You’ve made me smile remembering that, it could have been so much easier to take that pint, but stronger to stand by your decision.
    Thanks

  3. Hi Wayne Thanks for commenting & the tests are ever present. Just came back from the firework’s night and their was a band playing afterwards – ironically called ‘Liquid Cosh’! I was surrounded by people holding pints and it was my own personal hell. I wanted to just grab one and drink but obviously didn’t. Back safe at home where it feels easier at the moment.
